Item Description
Lot of four original sketches by comic book artists of Filipino descent done at 1970s comic book conventions. Included are two 9x12" sheets w/art done in 1976 at a comic book convention by Alfred P. Alcala. Ink and colored markers sketches of Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja. Conan has 6x11" image area w/head and shoulders shot and foliage. Sonja has 7.5x7.5" image area w/head shot. Both are signed by the artist in ink. Sheets have lt. creasing, most noticeable on Conan sheet. Both will frame to VF appearance. Expressive examples done shortly after his success in Filipino comics and early DC work, drawn the same year he moved to New York. Lot also includes Red Sonja sketch by Alex Niño who did work for both DC and Marvel Comics (including work on Conan), and Dagar (a Gold Key character) sketch by Jesse Gantos. Sheets have varying degrees of aging and scattered handling wear. Fine-VF overall.
