1-5/8x2-3/8" Cuban card from set distributed in packs of Diaz cigarettes. The cards in this set feature players from the 1923-1924 Cuban Professional League. 85 cards are in the set, the largest and one of the scarcest of all 1920s Cuban card issues. Printed in dark brown with photo on front along with text "Habana B.B.C. A. Luque - Manager." Card back includes number and description of the series with offer for an album. Slight margin trim but both sides remain clean and image is bold. Luque was an early 20th century Cuban starting pitcher in Major League baseball. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1967. A native of Havana, Luque played winter baseball in the Cuban League from 1912 to 1945. He was also a long-time manager in the league. He was elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
