Item Description
10x14" original cardboard mount/mat w/6.5x10.25" opening around the high quality gelatin silver photo. Printed text on bottom margin includes team name, date and player names. At lower right is photographer's mark "Royal Studio Hamilton, ON." Great image of 15 team members standing on ball field. At center is Gehringer. Mat has trace of edge wear and lt. aging but is Fine while photo is clean and glossy w/sharp and bold image. Exc. In 1924, Gehringer played for the London Tecumsehs in the Class B Michigan Ontario League. He was called up briefly at the end of Sept. and played five games for the Detroit Tigers. His first full season in the Major Leagues was 1926. In total he played 19 seasons with the Tigers between 1924-1942, the only ML team he ever played for. He is widely regarded as one of the games greatest second basemen and was inducted into the HOF in 1949. This is a great photo from the year he made his ML debut. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
