Item Description
15x20" artboard has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for 1960s Pyro Plastics "Table Top Navy" 1/1,200 Scale model kit No. C388-50, the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9), the lead ship of the 24-ship Essex Class built for the US Navy during World War II. The USS Essex was commissioned in 1942 and served through World War II, the Korean War, and Apollo 7 before being decommissioned in 1969. Art shows the ship at sea, a Navy fighter taking off from its deck. Sailors can be seen below deck by pair of forward guns. A battleship can be seen in the distant bkg. Art is signed by A.J. Rudisill, an internationally-acclaimed artist whose original acrylic paintings of landscapes and seascapes have been exhibited at major galleries throughout the country. Earlier in his career Rudisill provided stunning model kit box art, such as those offered here. Art area measures 9x18". Sticker letters spelling "USS Essex" have been placed under art and the name is penciled at bottom right below art. Large margins have some tape/tape residue and bottom right margin has streak of moisture staining, none of which affects art, which remains NM and would look stunning framed. Impressive model kit art.
