9.75x25.5" illustrated (w/numerous Apes at left) cardboard display card contains 25" long "Rapid Fire Rifle" and 7x8" soft rubber Ape mask by Mattel. 1970s though marked 1967. Gun features simulated revolving bullet chamber and has "Planet Of The Apes" sticker on right side of stock, this being only Apes marking on gun itself. Raised "Rapid Fire" and "Mattel" logo above bullet chamber. Despite the popularity of "The Planet Of The Apes," this and other sets (see following item #2568) did not sell well and were quickly pulled from shelves. Mask has been cut from display tabs (which remain stapled to card) and remains pliable. Both have some lt. aging and are VF. Card has aging and scattered edge/corner tip wear w/wear to die-cut areas for holding rifle. Fine/VF. Both gun and mask are rare and set is extremely rare in original box. In our last auction, we sold the Tommy-Burst gun and mask set for $1,109. This is the first of this set we've offered.
