Item Description
Unused postcard 3-3/16x5.5" autographed by prominent suffragettes "Rosalie G. Jones" (left) and "Elisabeth Freeman" (right) in 1912. Both stand by their horse drawn buggy which took them from New York's Long Island west to Ohio and south to Washington D.C. Both wear bags stenciled "Votes For Women." The side of the buggy reads "Women Vote In Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Washington, California. This Year Votes In Ohio, Kansas, Wisconsin, Oregon (with rest obscured by wheel)." The term "This Year" dates the card to 1912. Jones was an Oyster Bay socialite and graduated from Brooklyn Law School. She along with Elisabeth Freeman also took part in the "Suffrage Hike" from New York to the inauguration of Woodrow Wilson in Washington in 1913. Freeman is also known for a report she prepared for W.E.B. DuBois and the NAACP on the lynching of Jesse Washington in Waco, Texas bringing national attention to the case. Much more information on-line about these leading personalities of the suffrage movement. The card, with NYC union bug, has only minor soil and corner tip wear. Unique and Fine. Comes with Hake's COA.
