Item Description
8.5" tall unglazed figural two-piece terracotta tobacco jar w/polychrome decorations depicts African-American boy holding pipe in hand while he sits atop large melon. Made by Johann Maresch in Aussig, Austria, c. 1900. Underside has "JM 3350" designation. Jar has all over paint aging and scattered small rubs, including to brim of boy's hat, foot and raised edges of melon. Interior retains strong tobacco aroma. Fine overall.
