Auction #213 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1062 in auction 213
Item Description
Nicely made hinged-lid wooden case w/felt-covered interior/insert (w/lock but no key) holds 7.75" tall glass tobacco jar w/fitted glass lid. 1890s. Jar has mostly intact "Surbrug's Best Make Pipe Tobacco" paper label around it, w/even moderate aging and scattered rippling as applied. Label is Fine. Jar itself is Exc. Wooden case was likely used by a salesman as a presentation case. Moderate aging to interior w/oxidation to hinge screws, but exterior still displays VF. Nice example of an early tobacco jar in its rare original presentation box.
