Item Description
Original 16x20" double-mat contains three acetate sheets containing all four Beatles as they appeared in the 1968 animated film "Yellow Submarine." These cels and drawings were sold in stores such as Hallmark in late 1969 and during 1970 matted like the example offered here. When the film was finished, all of the original artwork that wasn't wanted/kept by the original animators/production team were packaged for retail sale to the public. All were hand-painted in London from Nov., 1967 through July, 1968 by TVC (TV Cartoons) for King Features/Subafilms Ltd. The film premiered July 16, 1968 at the London Pavilion in Picadilly Circus, London, England. These three married cels are as issued for sale and as such features great scene w/all four Beatles, cels depicting image of George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney seated in group; butterfly; accented sky design. Full body image of John Lennon is a cut-out and has been added to look as if he is chasing butterfly. Painted bkg. has die-cut accent sheet added, giving the illusion of a grassy hillside. Mat shows some lt. corner tip wear and lt. aging. Center of green bkg. has some blue moisture staining, but this does not affect cels, which still display VF/Exc. Great collage scene from the classic Beatles film.
