Item Description
Large 18x30" artboard w/original onionskin overlay (w/penciled measurements) has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for 1960s Pyro Plastics "Table Top Navy" 1/1,200 Scale model kit No. C384-50, the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV-8), a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier of the US Navy. During World War II in the Pacific Theater, she launched the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo and participated in the Battle of Midway and the Buin-Faisi-Tonolai Raid. In the Solomon Islands campaign she was involved in the capture and defense of Guadalcanal and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands where she was sunk. Art shows the ship at sea w/another ship in the bkg. and a sailor on the bow below deck. Art is signed by A.J. Rudisill, an internationally-acclaimed artist whose original acrylic paintings of landscapes and seascapes have been exhibited at major galleries throughout the country. Earlier in his career Rudisill provided stunning model kit box art, such as offered here. Art area measures 12.75x25.5". Sticker letters spelling "USS Hornet" have been placed under art and the name is penciled at bottom right below art. Artboard shows wear, w/pinholes and moderate wear at corners. Right margin has .75" spot of moisture staining. Art remains unaffected (though overlay shows some wear) but would display NM if matted and framed. Large and impressive model kit art.
