Item Description
15x20" artboard has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for 1960s Pyro Plastics "Table Top Navy" 1/1,200 Scale model kit No. C387-60, the IMS Japanese Aircraft Carrier Syokaku (Shokaku), the lead ship of her class. Along w/her sister ship Zuikaku (see item #2467), she took part in several key naval battles during the Pacific War, including the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands before being torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine at the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Art shows the ship at sea w/a number of planes on her deck, the Imperial Japanese Navy standard flying from superstructure. Art is signed by A.J. Rudisill, an internationally-acclaimed artist whose original acrylic paintings of landscapes and seascapes have been exhibited at major galleries throughout the country. Earlier in his career Rudisill provided stunning model kit box art, such as offered here. Art area measures 9x18". Sticker letters spelling "Syokaku" have been placed under art and the name is penciled at bottom right below art. Artboard has moderate scattered moisture staining, most noticeable at lower left margin/corner. Art has streaks of moisture staining in sky area above ship, but most blends somewhat. Margins have some tape/tape residue artboard has pinholes at corners. Fine overall.
