Item Description
15x20" artboard has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for 1960s Pyro Plastics "Table Top Navy" 1/1,200 Scale model kit No. C381, the German Kriegsmarine Prinz Eugen, an Admiral Hipper-class heavy cruiser, the third member of the class of five vessels. Along w/the battleship Bismarck, the two ships destroyed the British battlecruiser Hood and severely damaged the battleship Prince of Wales in the Battle of Denmark Strait. After the German collapse in May 1945, she was surrendered to the British Royal Navy before being transferred to the US Navy as a war prize. After examining the ship, the US Navy assigned the cruiser to the Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll. Having survived the atomic blasts, Prinz Eugen was towed to Kwajalein Atoll, where she ultimately capsized and sank in Dec. 1946. Art shows the ship at sea. Art is signed by A.J. Rudisill, an internationally-acclaimed artist whose original acrylic paintings of landscapes and seascapes have been exhibited at major galleries throughout the country. Earlier in his career Rudisill provided stunning model kit box art, such as those offered here. Art area measures 11.5x19". Ship's name is penciled at bottom right. Large model kit number in marker at lower left. Pinholes at corners/margins. Printing label at left center. Margins have some tape/tape residue/tape staining, none of which affect art. If matted and framed, art would display Exc. Impressive model kit art.
