Item Description
7.75x23.75" thin artboard has original pen and ink art for June 5, 1924 daily strip by Gus Mager, an American painter, illustrator and cartoonist who was the creator of several comic strips, notably "Hawkshaw The Detective" and "Sherlocko The Monk," which he created in 1904 along w/several other "Monk" monkey-like characters. Strip features four panels, w/Radio Monk in three of the four, another character overhearing Radio Monk talk of making spaghetti, which he ends up using as a insulating device for radio. First panel has New York Evening World newspaper copyright strip paste-over and Mager has signed bottom of third panel and strip title and date appear at upper left. Artboard has .5" tear at left center and aging to margins, but art remains clean and would display Exc. if matted and framed.
