Item Description
18.5x26" thin artboard has original pen and ink art for June 21, 1970 "The Lone Ranger" Sunday page. King Features Syndicate distributed "The Lone Ranger" newspaper comic strip from Sept. 1938 until Dec. 1971. The original artist was Ed Kressy, who was replaced in 1939 by Charles Flanders (who died in Spain in 1973), who drew the strip until its conclusion. This strip is from the tail-end of the series and features "The Lone Ranger" illustrated title stat in first of 11 panels. Ten panels have original pen and ink art by Flanders. First panel features Lone Ranger's nephew Dan Reid and Tonto on horseback, The Lone Ranger meeting up w/them in second panel. Dan discusses helping Professor Harris w/both Tonto and Lone Ranger. The Professor is seen being given the shake-down by some bandits in sixth panel, w/flashbacks in next two panels detailing story of lost gold cache that the bandits want the professor to help them find. In total, Lone Ranger appears in four panels, Tonto in one and Dan Reid in four. Second to last panel has Flanders' name and date while last panel has copyright strip. Title stat has obvious aging and margin has some scattered editorial notes, including date and title at top in black felt tip pen. Bottom center has .5x1.25" moisture streak, though this does not affect art. Pinholes along top margin, but these and other minor margin issues could be easily matted out for an Exc. display.
