Item Description
This original strip art was reused for “Cave Of The Ghost”, first story published in January-February 1948 issue #1 of “The Lone Ranger” Dell comic book. Dates are: May 19, 20, 27 and 28. Each thin art-board is approximately 7.25x26.25" with 5.75x24.75" India ink image area. All are signed in ink at bottom of one panel by longtime Lone Ranger artist Charles Flanders, also signed in ink or pencil in blank margin “OK Trendle”. George Trendle created the Lone Ranger with writer Fran Striker in January 1933. The Lone Ranger is in all 16 panels, Tonto is in seven panels. Storyline has Lone Ranger finding dead man on ground w/warning note nearby from “The Ghost”. They ride into town to ask sheriff about killer, then try to get more information and get in a fight w/four outlaws. Last panel of fourth strip has three men trying to “Unmask The Critter”. Applied zipatone dot pattern used for shading has yellowed with age and is missing in a few places leaving glue stains. First original is lightly aged w/a few vertical creases, art otherwise Fine/VF. All have Lone Ranger Inc. King Features Syndicate copyright pasted strips. Superb and well-drawn throughout. Historic large examples.
