Item Description
20.75 x 26.75” illustration board has highly detailed India ink art c. 1890 titled “A Year With Dolly”. Upper left has “November Sagittarius” vignette w/cupid holding bow and arrow. Main image area has young boy playing studious doctor to little girl's doll. Upper right and lower left have hand lettered poems telling story of Dolly taking a train ride, falling on track, and coming to “A Dreadful Ending!” Art is signed “Birch” in ink at lower left. Some text on upper right poem is glued in place, lower right corner tip is missing slip of surface paper not affecting art. Board is evenly cream colored. Will mat and frame to Fine/VF appearance. Reginald Birch (1856-1943) was an English-American artist and illustrator most noted for his art in “Little Lord Fauntleroy” in 1886. His work appeared in “St. Nicholas, The Youth’s Companion, Harper’s” among others and he was a founding member of the Society of Illustrators. A superb example.
