Item Description
c. late 1930s. Art board has 5.5x7.25” India ink and gouache image area w/chauffer holding car door open for well-dressed boy and girl w/schoolbooks as proud mother looks on. Signed in ink “Helen E. Hokinson” at lower right. Margins have mounting traces from previous framing. Art will mat and frame to Exc. appearance. Helen Hokinson (1893-1949) was the first “New Yorker” cartoonist, eventually doing 68 covers and 800+ cartoons between 1925 and 1945. Well drawn example. From the Schechter Family collection.
