Item Description
Thin art board has 14x16.75” India ink image area w/family of eight including children, parents, grandparents and dog writing on paper w/images of “Indiana Authors” and “The Wabash” on walls. Hand inked caption reads” A Recent Dispatch States That Book Publishers Are Eagerly Looking For The Great American Novel. It Is Said To Have Created Much Interest In Indiana.” Signed in ink “McCutcheon” at lower left. Dated in ink “April 17”. Published in “The Mysterious Stranger And Other Cartoons” book. Extreme margin edges have age toning, extreme bottom edge has 1/8” tear. Rest of image area is VF/Exc. McCutcheon (1870-1949) is recognized as the “Dean Of American Cartoonists” and won the Pulitzer Prize for cartooning in 1932. He worked for the Chicago Tribune from 1903 to 1946.
