Item Description
This large heavy piece is unlisted in Hake and DeWitt/Sullivan. It is 3-3/8” tall with the name of the NYC maker Braxmar stamped on the reverse. The piece is made of white metal although it has an all over bronze style tone finish. Top hanger has eagle perched on bar reading “Centennial Inauguration” with shields at left and right dated “1789” and “1889.” Loop holds large medallion with star design and encompassing high relief bust of Washington. Arms of the star have raised lettering which reads “NYC April 30th 1889/First In War/First In Peace/And First In The/Hearts Of His Countrymen.” Rare and NM.
