Item Description
10" long painted pressed steel prototype gun has hand-lettered "Double Barreled Dick Tracy Riot Gun" name on right side w/"Machine Gun - Tear Gas - Riot Call" designations and cut out portrait image of Tracy pasted on. Top has ornate raised sight at rear, lifting metal lid for caps and long barrel. Left side has sliding door that opens to produce sound. Marx, 1936 as underside of handle has "Erie #1239 - Oct. 2, 1936" text/date, which also notes this prototype was made at Marx's Erie, PA. plant. Red paint on barrel shows wear w/some scattered flaking and aging. Main portion of gun has slight scattered fading and wear. Gun still works, but no longer produces sparks. VG/Fine overall. This gun was ultimately unproduced and a similar design (w/o extra barrel) was eventually made into Marx's "Flash Gordon Signal Pistol." From the John Bowers Collection.
