Published in Sept. 2 issue. Thin art board has 7.25x10.5” India ink image area w/hand inked caption on front and back. Well-dressed man is seated next to piano w/pretty woman at right and left. Caption reads “Things One Would Rather Have Expressed Differently. Miss Bessy- Would You Sing Something Captain Belsize? Captain Belsize Oh I No Longer Sing Now Do I Miss Caroline? Miss Caroline- I’m Afraid You Do Captain Belsize! ” Extreme margin edges have age toning, rest of image area is Exc. DuMaurier (1834-1896) began doing two cartoons a week for “Punch” in 1865, and is also known for the novels “Trilby” and “Ibbetson”. Superb pen work w/wonderful use of light and shadow.
