Item Description
4.5x9-1/8" tall die-cut cardboard figure w/classic image of Popeye making a muscle in front of box of Wheatena cereal. ©1929 KFS, but 1930s. Popeye holds sign reading "'I Sez Wheatena Makes Muskle!' Popeye Is On The Air Tues - Thurs - Sat - 7:15 P.M. New York Time - NBC-NEAF Network." This is much smaller version of Popeye Wheatena advertising standee (see item #1973) that was produced at the same time. Figure shows heavy and obvious wear w/heavy horizontal creases at center (w/two 1/8" holes), scattered heavy aging and moderate edge wear. Fair. 8.5x12.5" cardboard countertop standee w/easel back features Popsicle prize promotion. ©1939 Joe Lowe Corp. Popeye image at top left w/"Save Bags For Gifts" text and great collage showing available gifts. Detailed list of gifts which were available by sending in Popsicle/Fudgesicle/Creamsicle bags. List includes Popeye rubber doll (see item #1975), Lucky Jeep Fortuneteller, rubber Jeep doll, enamel pins for Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy and Jeep as well as Popeye Sweat Shirt and other generic items. Moisture staining at upper left w/moderate edge wear. Bottom has some moisture staining, which has resulted in some rippling of surface paper. Good/VG. Rare and desirable Popeye display piece.
