Item Description
Original glossy 8x10" photo is c. late 1930s. Wonderful image of Effa seated at her desk and smiling as she fills out a form clearly marked "Player Contract." Front has publication crop marks and moderate margin wear w/2" teat at top center that has archival tape repair on reverse. Reverse has aging and publication notations. Defects and crop marks could be matted out and image area remains bright, glossy and sharp. VG overall. This is one of a few known career contemporary photos of Effa who was a female sports executive and the first woman inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. She co-owned the Newark Eagles baseball franchise in the Negro League with her husband Abe from 1935-1946 and was sole owner through 1948 after his death. In our March 2014 auction a NSP of her w/an Eagles player sold for $2,024.
