Item Description
Original 8x10" nice quality matte finish photo showing the NL team posed on Comiskey Park ball field. Most are wearing their official "NL" uniform, manager John McGraw is seated in the middele wearing a suit and tie. Bottom margin has inked text "The 1st All Star Game Chicago Ill 1933." This first All-Star game took place on July 6th and was won by the AL 4-2. It was initiated at the insistence of Arch Ward, a sports editor for the Chicago Tribune, to coincide with the celebration of the city's "Century Of Progress" Exposition. In addition to McGraw, the other HOF members shown are: Gabby Hartnett, Frank Frisch, Carl Hubbell, Paul Waner, Pie Traynor, Bill Terry, Bill McKechnie, Max Carey, Chick Hafey and Chuck Klein. We have seen several different variations of this team image, slightly different poses and some with and without players wearing their ball caps. Very lt. handling wear. There is an ink check mark on the upper body of Traynor. Photo remains bright and clean w/sharp image which is enhanced by being on such quality photographic paper stock. Exc. Incredible photo. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
