Item Description
Thin art board has 3-3/4x16-1/2” India ink image area w/three panels for Nov. 22. First panel has men from “Chicago Varmints Club” talking about sending a telegram regarding horse race to “Barney- Snuffy Can’t Read”. Snuffy is resting against moonshine jug smoking a pipe as excited Barney shows him the telegram. Panel three has classic close-up w/Snuffy telling Barney “Chicaggay- Waal Bus’ Mah Britches- D’ye Reckon We-uns Cud Swipe A Heifer Or Two From Them Thar Stock-yerds Afore Th’ Moon Ups”. Signed in ink “DeBeck” in panel one. Reverse side has blue pencil title “Snuffy Is For Taking Stock”. Complete w/King Features copyright label on front. Blank top margin has a few pencil notes, image area clean and Exc. A well-drawn funny example w/classic early appearance of Snuffy Smith who first appeared in the strip in 1934 and would become the main character. Schechter Family Collection.
