Item Description
Published in Phil May’s “Gutter Snipes” book in 1896, published by Andrew Tuer. Thin art board has 6.5x9.5” image area in India ink and lead pencil. Delightful scene shows people watching as boy on sidewalk draws Phil May w/caption “Fill May Is A Phool” as other boy draws image on wall of man w/mustache w/caption “Androo Tuer Is A Puddenhed”. Art is signed ink “Phil May” at lower right. Image area is titled twice in ink. Minor age toning, image area will frame to Near Exc. appearance. Funny and well-drawn example, obviously showing the artist and publisher didn't take themselves too seriously. Schechter Family Collection. See previous item #1548.
