Item Description
This 5.5" dia. saucer and the following two saucers (#816-817) are from a set made in England by Paragon Fine Bone China in the early 1930s as part of their "Naughty Nigger Boys" series. Company mark and series name on underside. Based on the song "Ten Little Injuns" written by Septimus Winner in 1868 which was later adapted by various authors into "Ten Little Nigger Boys" (see item #818). Saucer has "Four Little Nigger Boys, Under-Neath A Tree, A Cocoanut Fell On One, Then There Were Three" text and shows three boys sitting under palm tree, another laying dead in foreground. Over-the-paint orange accents. Art has artist Leslie Irving's name. Text shows some lt. wear to last word and silver luster rim accent shows wear. Fine. Rare and first we've offered in our 48 years.
