See previous item #1485. Club lot to help promote wartime conservation and purchase of "W.S.S. War-Savings Stamps" includes 3.5x4-3/8" card showing Happy Jack Squirrel pointing to sign w/large "W.S.S." letters, reverse explaining how club works and next items to acquire in club. c. 1918-1919. Card has 1" corner crease and is Fine overall. Club items listed include - 5/8" litho pinback button w/Happy Jack image and club text. Tiny dot of staining at bottom (below center of "W.S.S." name), o/w Exc. 5-1/8x7.5" 22-page storybook by Burgess w/illustrations by Harrison Cady shows Peter Rabbit learning about being thrifty. See Cady original art #1556. Moderate handling wear. VG/Fine. 8.5x10-7/8" typed letter on "Savings Division" letterhead is dated June 5, 1919 and is addressed to school teachers and mentions Happy Jack Club. Folded into quarters as mailed. VF. Last item is 8.5x10-7/8" typed letter w/illustrated "National War-Savings Committee" letterhead that bears Cady illustration of Happy Jack. Letter is dated Dec. 6, 1918 and was addressed to high school teacher from Burgess, who has signed at bottom in black ink. Letter mentions enclosed Happy Jack letters and thanks teachers school for their devotion to program. Folded as mailed w/.5x1" moisture spot at lower left. Pair of 3/8" tears to top fold line. VG overall, but signature remains Exc. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
