Item Description
1-5/8x2.25" Cuban card tobacco issue. Numbered C21-60, the baseball cards are part of a much larger set that also features boxers, actors and actresses, nudes and more. The baseball subset pictures mostly players from the 1923-1924 Cuban Professional League. Printed on glossy paper, the cards were meant to be glued into an album. Card front features head shot with text "Base Ball Chacon C-58." Distinctive black border around the image. Card back has issuer/series information. Card is deemed "Authentic" due to slightest margin trim. Image is bold and distinct. Chacon played 25 seasons in Cuba between 1908 and 1932. He ranks fourth in Cuban League history in stolen bases and led the league with a batting average of .344 in 1920-21. He managed Cienfuegos in 1929-30 when Negro League star Cool Papa Bell led the team to the Cuban League pennant. He was inducted into the Cuban Baseball HOF in 1949. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
