Item Description
Large 11x15.5" high quality matte finish photo. Exceptional image of both US and Japanese teams, staff, umpires, dignitaries along w/packed stadium seats in the bkg. At lower right is embossed photographers mark "A. Obata Shimonoseki." The first US player standing at left is HOFer George Kelly who has signed his name in ink running vertically above his image. Kelley also added in his hand, and in the same manner, the names of the 11 others from the US team including four fellow HOF members Al Simmons, Lefty Grove, Mickey Cochrane, Rabbit Maranville in addition to Larry French, Ralph Shinners, Tom Oliver, Willie Kamm, Muddy Ruel, Beans Reardon (Umpire), Herb Hunter (former player/team organizer). Kelley also added "Japan 1931" to the bottom center margin of the photo. Reverse has ink stamp "From The Estate Of George L. "Highpockets Kelly." Photo was rolled over the years and has some faint crease lines and a curl. 1" tear to right margin w/clear tape repair on reverse. Slight aging but overall image remains clean and bold. Kelly signature and all writing is strong. Fine. A historic baseball photo further enhanced by Kelly's personal touch. Richard Merkin Collection and comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
