Item Description
13x20.25" poster for "A Birthday Celebration" that took place Dec. 12, 1987 at the Vanity Ballroom in Detroit, MI. Printed by The Ghetto Press of Detroit, poster features design by Mark Arminski. Celebration was for Rob Tyner (1944-1991), best-known as lead singer for the proto-punk rock band MC5 (see following item #2831). Poster notes Tyner served as "Master Of Ceremonies" for the event and lists Vertical Pillows, Hysteric Narcotics and Orange Roughies as performers alongside MC5. This was originally printed as a postcard in 1987 and was reprinted as a poster in 1991 for Rob Tyner benefit. Arminski has signed in black felt tip pen below his name and copyright date. Exc. Comes w/17-7/8x25.25" mat containing Arminski's original art for this poster, w/"Vanity Ballroom Presents" paste-over applied at top center. Blocks w/dates are also paste-overs as Arminski created the design in positive and then reversed it to get the look he desired. Text block w/ticket information at bottom is also paste-over. All text and designs were o/w hand-inked by Arminski. 13.5x21-5/8" sheet of artpaper art has been mounted to foamcore which has mat attached at top w/tape. Exc. and would look great framed beside poster. Mark Arminski Archives and comes with a COA specially designed, signed and remarqued by him.
