Item Description
3.5x5.5" vintage matte postcard depicting famous early professional women's baseball player, Maud Nelson. Pictured here wearing her c. 1910 Olson's Cherokee Indians baseball club attire, Nelson starred for the Boston Bloomer Girls and American Athletic Girls during the first decade of the 20th century. In 1911, Maud became the owner/manager of the Western Bloomer Girls, where she worked together with her first husband, John B. Olson Jr., later adding scouting duties to her impressive resume. By the end of the 1920s, Nelson retired from women's professional baseball and she lived in the Wrigley Field, Chicago area until her death in 1944. Postcard edges exhibit corner wear with some foxing visible, primarily on the divided back. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
