Item Description
3.5x5.5" vintage matte postcard depicting a composite photo of 14 ballplayers dressed in uniform along with one individual in formal attire. Photographer's credit is located in the lower right-hand corner and indicates "Downing Photo". The 1907 Wichita ball club was a member of the Class D Western Association and the runaway winner of the league title that season with a win-loss record of 98-35, finishing 15-1/2 games ahead of the second place team, Oklahoma City. Not only did this team dominate their league that season but has been widely recognized as one of the Top 100 minor league baseball teams of all-time. All players are identified by last name and position under their respective photos, including the team's two biggest stars, Clyde Milan and Beals Becker. Front left margin of the postcard shows handwritten record of 48-15. Back of postcard is undivided and postally cancelled with a date of July 10, 1907 present. Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
