Item Description
3.5x5-5/8" vintage glossy postcard depicting 14 ballplayers in full uniform along with two gentlemen dressed in formal attire and a mascot/batboy posed on the outfield grass of their local baseball stadium. The 1909 Wilkes-Barre club finished in first place with a record of 88-53 in the Class B New York State League under manager Malachi Kittridge. A total of seven ballplayers would go on to play Major League Baseball from this team: Fred Applegate, Rube DeGroff, Delos Drake, Bill Keister, Mike Konnick, Herm Malloy and Pete Noonan. Postcard exhibits corner wear, including minor creasing along with a major crease near the right border which breaks through the paper on the back. Divided back includes a handwritten message on the left and name/address on the right and has been postally cancelled with a date stamp of January 9, 1910. Good/VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
