Item Description
8x10" original glossy photo depicting a quartet of Boston Red Sox receivers (left to right): Pinch Thomas, Bill Carrigan, Hick Cady and Sam Agnew posing in front of the home stadium seats at Fenway Park. News service stamp on the back indicates photo credit to "International Film Service Inc." The Boston Red Sox were the American League champions for the 1916 season, finishing with a record of 91-63. Making this season even more special for the Sox was the fact that it marked the first full MLB season for the Bambino, Babe Ruth. In addition to his catching duties, Bill Carrigan would also manage the ball club during this 1916 season while maintaining a .270 batting average. Thomas would do the bulk of the catching, finishing the year batting .264. Cady and Agnew were more of defensive specialists, batting only .191 and .209 during 1916. Back of photo includes handwritten player identifications. Image on front presents beautifully, a couple of .5" tears are visible within the surrounding white border. All four corners have been clipped off, with the lower left being the most severe, measuring approximately 2". Photo presents better than the assigned technical grade. Fair/Good. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
