Item Description
5-5/8x7-3/8" original glossy photo depicting Hall of Fame pitching great Robert "Lefty" Grove in formal attire during his late-career playing days with the Boston Red Sox. News service stamp on the back indicates photo credit to "International News Photo". Photographer's notes on the back indicate that this image was taken during 1938, a season in which Lefty would lead the American League in both ERA (3.08) and winning percentage (.778) thanks to a won-loss record of 14-4. Lefty would go on to finish his 17 year MLB career with exactly 300 wins against only 141 losses and an ERA of 3.06. In this photo, Grove seems to really be enjoying his cigar with several more inside his jacket pocket. Image presents very nicely, back of photo includes remnants of original paper notes having been separated long ago. VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
