Item Description
4.5x6-5/8" original press photo depicting two of Cuba's baseball greats from the 1920s, Cheo Ramos on the left and Isidro Fabre on the right. Ramos would spend the entire decade playing ball in Cuba, primarily for the Almendares club but did win a championship during the 1929-30 winter league season while playing for Cienfuegos. Ramos also played a number of years in the U.S. Negro Leagues for the Cuban Stars. Fabre was most notable for his time with Santa Clara, Cuba during the 1920s as well. Already having played several summers in the U.S. Negro Leagues for the Cuban Stars of the late 1910s, Fabre, became a two-way player, excelling on the mound as well as at the plate. Isidro would make his final professional baseball appearance in 1939, concluding a long and illustrious 22 year career. Image quality is excellent on this photo with some dark staining on the front, upper left-hand corner. Back exhibits remnants of scrapbook removal and includes the player identifications along with "#55". Fine/VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
