Item Description
4-5/8x10" original glossy photo depicting former Negro League star Chiquitin Cabrera in a leaping action pose, likely having just pulled the baseball out of the air. Playing for the New York Cubans during the late 1940s, Cabrera was a top hitter, capable of hitting for average as well as providing good pop. In addition, Cabrera would spend several seasons during the 1950s playing in both Cuba and Mexico. However, this photo was taken during the 1955 season, the one year that he played in the U.S. Big State League for the Port Arthur (TX) Sea Hawks. Photo exhibits numerous surface wrinkles and creases along with even, moderate corner wear and some emulsion along the top edge. Back of photo indicates "Cabrera" in ink for identification purposes and displays remnants from having been removed from a scrapbook long ago. Good/VG. From the Richard Merkin collection and comes with Hake's COA.
