Item Description
8-1/8x10" original glossy photo depicting Negro League baseball star, Chiquitin Cabrera, swinging his mighty stick for the New York Cubans ball club. Bottom right-hand corner has a handwritten note in Spanish ending with "Chiquitin", most likely in Cabrera's own hand (we have not attempted to authenticate the signature). During Cabrera's rookie season with the Cubans in 1947, he got off with a bang, hitting .352 and leading the club to the Negro National League pennant. After his Negro League career finished, Chiquitin would go on to play several seasons in the U.S. minor league during the 1950s as well as the 1950 summer in Mexico. Image exhibits superior quality while back of photo has substantial remnants from having been removed from a scrapbook long ago. Fine/VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
