Item Description
8.5x11" matte premium depicting the 1958 Buffalo Bisons ball club, highlighted by the inclusion of former Negro League and MLB star, Luke Easter. All individuals pictured are identified at the bottom of the photo. Long time Chicago Cubs star, Phil Cavarretta was the team's manager, seated in the middle row, directly at the center of the photo. Easter began his professional baseball career as a rookie for the Homestead Grays in 1947, finishing with a league batting average of .311 along with finishing third in the league in home runs. The next season, Easter earned a spot in the East-West All-Star Game by hitting .403 and was credited with a league leading 13 home runs. In 1949, Easter was signed by the MLB, Cleveland Indians. Beginning in San Diego (PCL), Luke hit .363 with 25 homers in 80 games before being called up to Cleveland. The next season, 1950, Easter spent the entire year with the Indians, batting .280 with 28 home runs. Over the next two seasons, Easter would hit 27 and 31 home runs respectively. Early in 1953 though, Easter was sidelined with a broken foot, which would hobble him for the brief remainder of his Major League career. Beginning in 1954 Easter would star for several minor league clubs, including the Bisons in 1958. Photo presents very nicely with a .75" crease in the upper left corner being the only condition issue of note. VF/Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
