Item Description
3.5x5-3/8" vintage glossy postcard depicts 16 ballplayers in full uniform posed standing/kneeling in front of stadium wall. The Paragould Browns ball club, a St. Louis Browns affiliate, was only in existence for a total of three seasons from 1939-41, playing in the Northeast Arkansas League. A total of eight team members from those three seasons made it to the Major Leagues - Hank Arft, Ray Coleman, Al LaMacchia, Hooks Iott, Andy Anderson, Babe Martin, Ribs Raney and Marlin Stuart. Since this ball club was existed for such a brief time, we believe that it's a good possibility that this postcard represents the only original image of this St. Louis Browns minor league team in existence. Image quality of the glossy photo is fabulous w/several moderate surface wrinkles present and lt. corner wear. Divided back of postcard remains blank and unused, exhibiting several lt. areas of foxing/staining. EKC stamp box indicates that the postcard was produced during the 1930-50 time period, consistent w/the subject matter pictured. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
