Item Description
3.5x5.5" vintage glossy postcard depicting five ballplayers in full uniform along w/security officer posed in front of stadium seating. Based on the two different uniforms pictured, this photo was taken at a 1943 Mexican League ball game between the Alijadores de Tampico club and the Union Laguna team. Seated prominently at center in dark short sleeves is Negro/Cuban/Mexican League great, Pedro Formental. Unfortunately, we have not been able to identify any of the other ballplayers but it could be possible by working w/1943 roster of each team. Formental played from 1943 through 1955, w/a number of different teams, including - Azules de Vera Cruz, Habana and the NL Memphis Red Sox. Postcard exhibits moderate, even corner wear, including some creasing/surface wrinkles and minor staining by corners. Divided postcard back indicates that it was produced in Mexico and remains blank and unused. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
