Item Description
3-3/8x5.25" vintage matte postcard depicting members of both the Montreal Royals and Newark Indians from the 1909 Class A - Eastern League. "Illustrated Post Card Co., Montreal" production credit on back. The 1909 Montreal Royals finished in sixth place in the Eastern League in 1909, w/a final record of 68-83. A total of 16 team members would go on to play in the MLB, including notables - Doc Casey, Bob Wicker, George Winter, Fritz Buelow, Tommy Clarke, Bobby Keefe and Joe Yeager. The 1909 Newark Indians finished in second place in the Eastern League in 1909, w/a record of 86-67. A total of 16 ballplayers would eventually play in the Majors, including HOF member Joe McGinity. Other notables include - Walter Blair, Jake Gettman, Jack Lapp, Baldy Louden, Benny Meyer and Harry Wolverton. Postcard has been mailed and was canceled on both front/back w/Aug. 19, 1909 date stamp.
