Item Description
PHOTO WAS PREVIOUSLY MISDATED. THIS IS A 1930s PHOTO, NOT 1910s AS PREVIOUSLY DESCRIBED. DESCRIPTION HAS BEEN UPDATED W/PLAYER IDENTIFICATIONS ADDED. (6/12/20)

6.75x7.75" vintage matte photo mounted on thick cardboard backing depicting 13 ballplayers in full uniform posed in front of the team bus. Due to a dispute about use of their baseball stadium, the 1930 Havana ball club's season was cut short. We have been able to identify four of the team members pictured here, including - José María Fernández (sixth from left), Óscar Estrada (second from left), Juan Eckelson (sixth from right) and Marcelino Bauza (fifth from right). The Havana team was managed by longtime Cuban baseball great Miguel Gonzalez. Image quality of the photo is superb. Back of photo has a couple of handwritten notations but not discernable. A number of top Cuban ballplayers spent time w/the Havana ball club during the 1920s and 1930s, so further research and player identification could be a very worthwhile endeavor. Photo exhibits a number of surface wrinkles along w/major crease at upper left corner. Staining is visible primarily along the right border as well as across the back. Bottom edge on back exhibits significant paper loss in layers. Good. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
