Item Description
7-3/8x8.5" vintage glossy photo depicts Negro League baseball great Bob Thurman during the 1953 Winter League baseball season while playing for the Santurce ball club during the Caribbean Series. "Fotos RFM Habana - 1953" photographer's stamp on back. Spanish language newspaper clipping attached further details the subject matter. Thurman played for the Homestead Grays and Kansas City Monarchs during the late 1940s and had a minor league career during the early 1950s before finally reaching the Major Leagues in 1955 w/the Cincinnati Reds, where he would continue to play through the 1959 season. Best known for his pitching heroics during his Negro League time, Thurman would play strictly outfield in the Majors w/Cincinnati. Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
