Item Description
3-3/8X5-3/8" vintage matte postcard depicts 13 ballplayers in full uniform along w/gentleman in formal attire posed in front of stadium seating. Handwritten date notation on back reads "1927" and is consistent w/the AZO stamp box, which dates the postcard to 1924-49. The Portsmouth ball club played in the Class B - Virginia League off and on from 1895 through 1928, winning their third and final league title in 1927 under Manager Zinn Beck. A total of eight future MLB players would play for this team, w/the most prominent being - Joe Heving, Jim Turner, Bill Harris and Zinn Beck. Great image quality.
