Item Description
3x3-7/8" vintage matte photo depicting Cuban baseball great José María Fernández w/teammate, possibly his younger half-brother Rudy Fernández. Handwritten identification on back of Oscar Charleston is incorrect. Fernández would star in both the Cuban baseball leagues as well as the US Negro Leagues from the 1910s through the 1940s, becoming a player/manager later in his career. Rudy also spent many seasons playing in Cuba as well as the Negro Leagues, including a one year stint w/the all-time great 1937 Ciudad Trujillo ball club. Clarity of image is excellent. Horizontal crease across center of photo and scattered handling wear w/foxing on back. VG/Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
