Item Description
8x10" vintage glossy photo depicts four members of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball club posed in front of stadium seating. "Associated Press Photo" credit photographer's stamp on back. Uniform style pictured dates this photo to the 1931 season. Standing from left to right are - Chick Hafey (HOF), George Watkins, Pepper Martin and Wally Roettger. The 1931 St. Louis Cardinals won the NL pennant w/a final record of 101-53 and, ultimately, defeated the Philadelphia Athletics to win the World Series. One of the club's biggest stars, Hafey would finish his career w/a batting average of .317 along w/164 home runs, 833 RBIs, 777 runs scored and 70 stolen bases. Photo exhibits surface wrinkles and a few scattered lt. creases throughout. Corner tips show lt. wear, lower left corner has a 3/8" sliver off. Back of photo contains remnants of paper caption once attached. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
