Item Description
Only example known to Hake's, this 1.25" outstanding rarity has its Bastian Bros. back paper and was issued during the late 1930s based on the uniform style depicted in the photo. The beautiful crisply detailed (without dot screen) photo has his facsimile signature at lower right while he poses kneeling and holding the bat accented by large company logo reading in full "Louisville Slugger/Hillerich & Bradsby Co./Louisville, Ky.". Johnny Mize began his Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1936 and would stay with the Cardinals through the 1941 season. After moving to the New York Giants club in 1942, Mize would spend the next three years serving in the military during World War II before moving back to the Giants in 1946. Johnny would close out his career playing four plus seasons with the New York Yankees before retiring after the 1953 season. Mize would finish with a career batting average of .312 along with 359 homers and 1,337 RBI's and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981. NM.
