Item Description
See #708 for details. Rare. To the best of our knowledge, this button has only been offered individually once before at public auction. Danny Hoffman was a very strange selection for this button series as his last Major League baseball season was 1911 with the St. Louis Browns. Hoffman began his career playing in the outfield for the Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in 1903 and remained there for three more seasons before joining the New York Highlanders in 1906, where he would stay for two years before finishing his career with the St. Louis Browns. Danny did spend several years in the minor leagues including a stint with the Wilkes-Barre club from 1913-15, when this button was issued. Surface has three slightly raised bumps, felt but barely seen. Also button has great gloss and no stain. However, .25" below the fielder's foot is a .25" horizontal cut line in the cello which can be slightly seen and felt. Below that is an even smaller, faint 3/16" craze crack, barely seen. Just to right of that is all but microscopic 1/16" craze line in the cello. Fine overall, but visually VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
